Fascinating November Talk on the Belfast Blitz by Alan Freeburn

30th Nov 2024

The topic for the final talk of 2024 on Thursday 28 November was ‘In Honour of a Memory: The Victims of the Belfast Blitz.' Our guest speaker was Mr Alan Freeburn, Curator of Down County Museum. Mr Freeburn was formerly the collections officer of the Northern Ireland War Memorial Museum and is an expert on the events of the Blitz, when over 900 people were killed during four nights of bombing in April and May 1941. His extensive research has recovered the names and stories of those who lost their lives in what was a hugely traumatic time for the city. Alan's poignant talk was beautifully illustrated with photographs and the accounts of victims and survivors and the large audience was testament to the enduring interest in the Belfast Blitz.
